About Heimdall

The Name
In Norse mythology, Heimdall is the all-seeing guardian of the Bifröst bridge — the rainbow bridge connecting the realm of the gods to the rest of the cosmos. He sees everything. He hears everything. He stands watch, always alert, always ready.
When we were naming our AI routing proxy, it felt like the obvious choice. Heimdall sits between your applications and the AI providers you depend on. It watches every request, tracks every token, routes traffic intelligently, and keeps everything secure. Just like its mythological namesake, it's the guardian of your AI infrastructure.
And as a Danish company, drawing from our own heritage felt right. Heimdall isn't just a product name — it's a statement about who we are and where we come from.
Why We Built This
It started with a conversation with a friend who was running a small SaaS company. He was excited about integrating AI into his product, but frustrated. His team was locked into a single provider, the bills were unpredictable and growing fast, and he had no real visibility into what was happening under the hood. When we asked what would happen if that provider went down, he paused. He didn't have an answer.
That conversation stuck with us. We started talking to more teams — startups, scale-ups, even larger companies — and the pattern was everywhere. People were all-in on one AI provider with no fallback. They had no idea how much each feature was costing them. And for European companies, there was the nagging question of where their data was actually going and whether it was compliant with GDPR.
We realized the problem wasn't the AI models themselves — it was the infrastructure around them. Teams needed a layer between their applications and the providers: something that could route intelligently, monitor everything, handle failures gracefully, and keep data within EU borders.
So we built it. Heimdall is that layer. A single, OpenAI-compatible endpoint that routes to any provider, gives you full visibility into costs and performance, and keeps its own infrastructure within EU borders. No lock-in. No surprises. Just control.

EU Sovereignty
Heimdall's infrastructure runs entirely on European servers. As a Danish company, we operate under EU law and keep all our systems within Europe. When you route to external providers, your requests go directly to them — but Heimdall itself never stores or logs your data outside the EU.

Based in Roskilde, Denmark
Roskilde is a historic city just west of Copenhagen, known for its Viking heritage and its cathedral — a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's also where Trubit ApS calls home.
Being based in Denmark means we operate under some of the strictest data protection laws in the world. It means every decision we make is filtered through a European lens. And it means when we say Heimdall's infrastructure stays in the EU, we mean it — because we're subject to those same laws ourselves.
GDPR compliance isn't an add-on for Heimdall. It's the foundation. Every feature, every architecture decision, every line of code is built with the understanding that your users' data deserves the highest level of protection.
EU-Native by Design
All Heimdall infrastructure — logging, observability, and routing — runs on European servers. Your request metadata never leaves the EU. When you route to US-based providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, your requests go directly to them, but Heimdall itself never stores or processes your data outside Europe. That's not a feature. It's a promise.
